BLEPHAROPLASTY
Blepharoplasty is an operation modifying the contour and configuration of the eyelids to restore a more youthful appearance. The surgery involves removing redundant skin, fat, and muscle. Supporting structures such as canthal tendons are tightened.
Due to aging, gravity, and genetics, the eyelids lose their elasticity, creating wrinkles and folds in the upper and lower eyelids. Excess skin on the top eyelid may sometimes reduce a person's vision. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, fixes those conditions by transforming the eyelids to provide a "lifting" effect, restoring a youthful appearance to the patient.
Most all eyelid surgery patients are a minimum of 35 years old. The inheritance of droopy eyelids may be a compelling reason to receive the surgery at a younger age. It is worth noting that eyelid surgery can enhance one's appearance but does not alter the facial structure. It is essential to discuss your goals and expectations before undergoing the procedure.

Procedure
A blepharoplasty operation usually requires 1–3 hours to complete. Post-operatively, there will be initial swelling and bruising. This will subside and resolve itself within 1–2 weeks. The final, stable results of the blepharoplastic correction will become apparent after several months and are best appreciated by comparing before and after photos of the eye region of the patient.
The anatomic condition of the eyelids, the (wear-and-tear) quality of the patient's skin, age, and the general condition of the adjacent tissues, affect the functional and aesthetic results achieved with the eyelid surgery.
A day before the procedure, stock up on items to aid your recovery — ice packs, gauze pads, artificial tears, and pain medications. You must also arrange for a friend or family member to drive you home and assist you while you recover.
Your stitches will remain in place for up to one week. There may be some swelling and bruising, but it will fade after one to two weeks. To avoid complications, it is important to follow Dr. Crais' instructions.
