KYBELLA®
Kybella® is a molecule of deoxycholic acid. It is the only FDA-approved injectable that improves the appearance of the submental fullness of fat just below the skin and between the jawbones. Kybella® frequently replaces liposuction and eliminates the waddle of fat below the chin. The treatment with Kybella® is relatively easy. The results are permanent once the endpoint is reached.
Kybella® is like liposuction in that the fat cells are killed using a lytic agent breaking up the fat cells. Kybella® usually takes two or three sessions of multiple injections in the area of the fat for complete resolution.

Administration of Kybella®
An in-office procedure, Kybella® is performed with a topical anesthetic at most. There certainly is some discomfort associated with the injections. The postoperative pain is usually adequately treated with aspirin, Advil, or some similar analgesic, along with cold compresses.
An expert technique is key to avoiding side effects of Kybella® such as muscle weakness or skin irritation. One should choose their injector cautiously. Significant structures are nearby, including muscles, motor nerves, sensory nerves, salivary glands, and lymph nodes. Each of these could have untoward effects if injected incorrectly. Choose an injector with complete knowledge of the anatomy of that area.
Patients who are contraindicated for having this procedure are persons who have a history of dysphagia or difficulty swallowing. Other surgical techniques would be more appropriate for individuals with more significantly relaxed skin. With Kybella®, skin tightening is not appropriate or possible. Other techniques would be either a neck lift or a subdermal.
