BREAST REDUCTION
Breast reduction, or reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove undesired breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a more proportional breast size and reduce the discomfort often associated with excessively large breasts.
Along with the physical ailments of macromastia, some patients may suffer from emotional distress or more significant mental health problems due to their large breasts.

Procedure
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The surgery takes between two and five hours. Incisions are made beneath each breast and around the areolae of the nipples. Excess skin and fat are removed. The remaining breast tissue is remodeled, and the nipples are repositioned and stitched.
Scarring can occur and may be permanent, yet scars usually fade after a year. Dr. Crais strives to keep the scarring as minimal and inconspicuous as possible. After the surgery, the breasts will be secured and bandaged. A supportive bra will need to be worn for several weeks after surgery. Tubes may be placed on the areas of treatment to drain the blood and fluid that accumulates in the breasts. The drainage tubes are removed after a few days. Though bruising and swelling may occur, they should disappear after a few weeks. Temporary loss of sensation in the breasts and nipples is normal and will fade as time progresses.
